About me
Hi there, my name is Karst. I am a political geographer with a strong interest in how geopolitics are shaped in everyday settings. That includes a focus on how interacting top-down and bottom-up processes shape borders, territories and cross-border relations, as well as how human-environment interactions add into this mix. To better understand these interactions, I breach disciplinary walls and integrate cultural political economy, assemblage theory and insights from political ecology in my work.
For my current project I look at how cross-border relations in the Gulf of Saint-Malo, a cross-border marine region between the Channel Islands, the UK and France, are shaped by people working in and governing the local fishing industry. I have previous experience as a policy analyst at the municipality of Assen (the Netherlands), where I examined the fit of spatial policy with the new Dutch legal framework for spatial planning.
